We're pleased to be supporting this year's Roundhay Open Gardens event which will take place on Sunday 23rd June.
As we now have REAP Elmete Community Orchard on the same site as us, we will be coordinating a joint tour.
Last week we welcomed Mark from the Food Standards Agency to Oakwood Market Garden for an inspection and discussion around our food hygiene. We were very pleased to achieve a 5 star rating!
Mark was also able to give us some valuable tips and guidance on how we might develop our policies and procedures as we expand.
It was great to be back at Oakwood Farmers Market in March for our third year.
Amazingly the rain stopped, the sun came out and best of all we got to catch up with our customers - and meet some new ones!
In addition to a range of seasonal produce we're now stocking gourmet oyster mushrooms from our friends Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium, while for growers we have high quality potato grow bags, our own natural comfrey fertiliser and a range of perennial and strawberry plants.
And you may have spotted that we're adopting the name of our site - 'Oakwood Market Garden' to better reflect our focus on local food for local people.
We were delighted to be invited to help Damasq celebrate their Environmental Achievement of the Year Award at the Leeds Compassionate City Awards 2023 held at the Banquet Suite at the Civic hall. We provide a space at our market garden for Damasq to keep some bee hives that are used to provide skills and wellbeing for members of the Leeds Syrian community. From left to right we have Amjad the professional beekeeper, Rob (P4P), Sawsan who is the inspiration behind Damasq and Sarah (P4P)
In September we had the great pleasure of meeting with and presenting to the members of the recently formed Oakwood branch of the Women's Institute. The theme of our talk was how locally grown food can contribute to providing a sustainable environment, a healthy diet and better mental health . You can find out more about Oakwood Wi here
In July and August 2023 we offered a highly successful - and tasty - summer salad veg box consisting of four items from: beetroot, lettuce, radish, cucumber, microgreens, tomatoes, salad potatoes (Pink Fir Apple). The items were based on what we had available - hence the amazing value!

It’s our ambition to make Oakwood Market Garden a resource for our local community in North East Leeds and this plant swap meetup was the first of what we hope will be many community events that we host. It was a great opportunity to meet face to face with fellow plant lovers including those from local Facebook groups that we’ve only chatted with online up to now - and to find a new plant.
Local environmental group REAP were present to talk about their initiatives including the edible bed at Oakwood Clock.

We were delighted to open our market garden to visitors as part of this event which raises money for St. Gemma’s Hospice. For safety reasons entry to our market garden was as a tour and talk.
